€176,800 to be invested towards the Creation of a Rural Tourism Network for the Majjistral Territory

The Majjistral Action Group Foundation (MAGF) is embarking on a new and very innovative project which will be beneficial for its territory, its farming community and the tourism and education sectors.  MAGF is launching its third action towards the implementation of its Local Development Strategy.

The idea of this next action is to establish a Rural Tourism Network that will bring together farmers from all over the region. This network will consist of a number of individuals each focusing on a specific aspect of farming in the Majjistral region.  Farming has been identified as one of the sectors to be supported under the Majjistral Local Development Strategy. It is important to protect this industry, help it to modernize itself, encourage farmers to be innovative and open for them new streams of revenue.

Rural tourism is an increasingly important alternative for economic and social development compared to the traditional model of a tourism product that is marketed locally.  The objective of rural tourism is to attract tourists in Malta to get closer to the environment and values of the rural world, such as its culture and heritage while sustainably exploiting these regional rural assets. It also helps to set up a distinctive regional tourism product which at the same time will stimulate people to acknowledge and appreciate the skills linked to the farming industry.

For this call of applications, public funds with a total of €176,800 have been allocated.

Any form of legal entity (excluding public entities) which aims to create this Network in order to allow for a diversified rural tourism experience and for improved income earning opportunities for farmers operating within the Majjistral territory can apply for this action.  The selected beneficiary will be granted up to 80% financial assistance.

This call will open on 23rd April 2012 and will close on 22nd June 2012, 12.00p.m.  Applications must be submitted by hand to the offices of MAGF at 12, Triq it-Tullier, Attard ATD 1631 by the 22nd June, 2012 - 12.00p.m.  More information may be obtained by phone on  2099 2080 or by email on info@leadermajjistral.eu

Applications can be submitted from the 19th December 2011 to 3rd February 2012, noon.  Applications must be submitted by hand to the offices of MAGF.
